WHO WE ARE

Meet the Maker
Anne Arkle

Inspired by a love of history and tradition, I began making silver spoon rings as a hobby in 2009, self-taught, I honed my individual technique and soon realised that people loved my work too! so I knew I was ready to launch my own business.

The name of our company is a combination of our cat’s name Jasper who sadly passed away in 2006, and "Sparkle" as Arkle Sparkle was my nickname at school! so our little Jasper lives on in our company logo. Our logo was created by a young media student, she asked if she could design a logo as part of her portfolio, and after reading our company's story she produced our Jaspersparkle cat design, I burst into tears as soon as I saw it, it was just perfect.

I live in Llandegfan, a small village on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey in North Wales, UK where I create spoonfuls of joy in my workshop.
I still absolutely love what I do.

HISTORY OF THE

SPOON RING

Spoon rings originated in 17th century England and were originally used as wedding rings. Servants could not afford to have wedding rings made of precious metals so they would steal the silverware from the manor houses and have them turned into wedding rings. For a time you could tell who the servants were working for by the crest on their rings.

No doubt convicts transported from England to Tasmania in the early 1800‘s were convicted of such offences as ‘Stealing a Silver Spoon’ or ‘Larceny by a servant’.

A gesture of love, commitment or responsibility earned 7 years transportation beyond the seas.

Like all wedding rings, a spoon ring denotes love, commitment and responsibility. The initial meaning likely conveyed a sense of risk as well. Their modern meaning is one of modesty, although their practicality is still pervasive too.
