This is a handmade Georgian silver ice tong bangle which would have been used to serve ice from an ice bucket during the Georgian period. It has a beautiful Brightcut design which is all original to the tongs and amazingly is 235 years old!
The historic silver hallmarks for London c1785 have been retained and are visible on the inside edge of the bangle. (ref SP2941).
This bangle began life in London c1785 as a pair of long ice bucket tongs, this bangle has been handcrafted using the complete set of tongs.
The diameter of this bangle is 7cm, slip the hand through the bangle but if need be, the bangle will unlock to allow the hand to pass through, simply slide one of the tong bowls over and it will unlock, once the bangle is on your wrist just slide the bowl back into the locked position.
Handcrafted using only hand tools on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales :-)
The bangle is presented in a two-tone wood case with the assay office details printed inside the case lid.
